Returnal is Housemarque's roguelike third-person shooter for PlayStation 5, released on 30 April 2021 by Sony Interactive Entertainment. It follows Selene, an astronaut stranded on the alien planet Atropos.
What is the story?
Selene crash-lands on Atropos and finds the remains of an earlier expedition. Each death returns her to the start of the cycle, while the planet changes around her. The story is pieced together through the environment, audio logs and repeated runs.
How does combat work?
Combat is fast and bullet-heavy, built around movement, dodging and alt-fire modes. You find new weapons and artefacts on each run, and permanent upgrades help you reach further on later attempts.
Can you play co-op?
Yes, optionally. Up to two players can play online with PlayStation Plus. The Tower of Sisyphus, house sequences and Challenge Mode are not available in co-op.
